Sexual Health Services

We provide a comprehensive Sexual Health Service that includes screening for patients with symptoms or who wish to have a routine check.

We employ a Sexual Health Nurse who works across all sites. However, all the Nurses can provide Sexual Health Screening and advice.

The majority of Nurses in the Practice are independent prescribers and can treat post screening. We will triage symptomatic patients and refer to the GUM clinic as appropriate, e.g. Herpes lesions (if initial onset), Genital warts, etc.

Sexual Health Screening

The Sexual Health Nurse may screen for:

HIV, Syphillis, Hepatitis B and C - Blood tests

Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea - these can be tested for either by a urine sample, endocervical / urethral swab or a ‘self taken’ vaginal swab.

Trichamonas, Bacterial Vaginosis, Candida (thrush) - These are taken from a high vaginal swab. These are not sexually transmitted diseases but there may be symptoms present.

We also offer contraceptive advice, free condoms and emergency contraception. Registered patients and students attending the University of Liverpool can get access to all these services at our sexual health drop-in every day except Wednesdays at our Student Health site between 12 noon and 2pm.
