Sexual Health Services

We provide a comprehensive Sexual Health Service that includes screening for patients with symptoms or who wish to have routine screening.

We employ a Sexual Health Nurse who works across all sites and is employed for a session per week by the Chlamydia Screening Programme to provide  treatment and contact tracing.  The remainder of her time is in relation to sexual health screening, advice and providing contraceptive services.

All the Nurses provide Sexual Health Screening and advice.  If you require a full STI screen then you will need to book a double appointment with the Sexual Health Nurse.

The majority of Nurses in the Practice are independent prescribers and can treat post screening.  we will triage symptomatic patients and refer to the GUM clinic as appropriate, e.g. Herpes lesions (if initial onset) Genital warts.

Sexual Health Screening

The Sexual Health Nurse may screen for:

HIV, Syphillis, Hepatitis B and C - Blood tests

Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea - these can be done either on a urine sample or and endocervial / urethral swabs, or a 'self taken' vaginal swab.

Trichamonas, Bacterial Vaginosis, Candida (thrush) - These are taken from a high vaginal swab.  These are not sexually transmitted diseases but may present with symptoms.

We also offer contraceptive advice, free condoms and emergency contraception. Registered patients can get access all these services at our sexual health drop-in every day except Wednesdays at our Student health site between 12 noon and 2pm.
