Student Occupational Health Screening

 

 

Occupational health screening is a compulsory element of the training required for students studying with medical faculty departments, these include 

  • NURSING    

  • MEDICINE    

  • OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY    

  • ORTHOPTICS    

  • DIAGNOSTIC RADIOTHERAPY 

  • THERAPY RADIOGRAPHY    

  • PHYSIOTHERAPY    

  • DENTISTRY (not at student health 07 intake)   

  • VETERINARY SCIENCE 

Sessions are arranged with the individual faculty and students are required to attend at these planned sessions.

 

Students should bring with them a completed immunisation sheet issued by their department.

 

On arrival students will be required to complete a consent form.  The nurse at the screening session will assess the student regarding allergies / pregnancy and ensure the consent form is completed.  If the student has any contraindications they will be referred to a GP or faculty.

 

Previous immunisations will be recorded:

  • Diphtheria/ tetanus/ polio- school leaving booster date

  • BGG and scar

  • Hepatitis B

  • Meningitis c and MMR (these are not course requirements)

  • A mantoux test will be performed

Record on template and consent form- vaccinate as appropriate where schedules are not completed.

 

Student return approx 72 hrs later for a planned session for assessment of mantoux test.

 

If a hepatitis B course is completed over 4 weeks prior then titres will be taken at this visit for hepatitis B varicella and rubella.  A BCG vaccination will be given if required (AS PROTOCOL)

 

The nurse will inform the student of future requirements as appropriate.
